Going From McMansion to McManageable

Going From McMansion to McManageable

Good things come in little packages.

Southern California is known as the birthplace of McMansions like the former Aaron Spelling mansion in Holmby Hills that is 56,000-square-feet. There are a lot of gratuitously huge homes that have been built here. But here in the Southland there’s now a hotbed of companies enveloping innovative technologies to streamline houses.  In the past years the average size of homes has fallen 20 percent since its 2007 peak.  There’s even a movement of people choosing great locations for small houses instead of size, promoting togetherness, and desiring to leave a lighter footprint on the earth. Some homes are as small as 500 square feet with optional moving partitions. The designs and creativity are phenomenal, it also allows people to interact and be outdoors more.  Those who are moving into these pint sized abodes find the process is teaching them how little material things they really need – and are finding that smaller is better.
So from McMansion to McManageable:  What do you need to downsize in your life and make manageable? What can you let go of to create a simpler life that works for you?

Here’s more downsizing inspiration.  An entire family downsized their life to live on a sailboat.  To celebrate their first anniversary Mandi and Scott Leonard sailed a schooner to Catalina Island. They were avid seafarers. At the time Mom worked 80—hours a week and the couple thought – “Wouldn’t it be great to live on a boat?”

The Leonard’s, a five-member family: mother, father and three children, all boys, took fourteen years to make it happen since they were very thorough.  First they wanted all their sons to be old enough to swim.  Next they took several practice sailing trips to the Bahamas. Mom studied hurricane schedules, compiled medical supplies and learned to use a Taser in case they encountered pirates. Fourteen years later the Leonard’s and their children relocated from a 3,200 square foot home to a 50-Foot Catamaran, and left for a three-year sailing voyage.

Now they are sails up for about 10 percent of their trip and the rest of the time they’re exploring various ports around the world. The boys are sailboat-home schooled, and the boys research and then alternate as tour guides on each of the different stops, walking the family through the sights.  This is a family learning the joy of realizing their biggest pipe dream.

For years they wanted to stop fitting their lives to their work and live the life they wanted. “Once we decided to do this,” Mandi Leonard says “we never looked back.”

Create Your Own MISSION STATEMENT:  Create a short mission statement for yourself and live your life in integrity with that mission. For example: “My mission is to create joy for myself and others by allowing myself to be powerful.”  Or “I am here to lead others through my voice and by example.” After deciding your mission, live your life with that in mind. Base your decisions on it. Ask yourself periodically “Am I living in integrity with my mission?” And as you grow it is appropriate to change your mission statement. When you live your mission here on earth you develop deep respect and love of self.

Metaphysical Downsizing

One day a government worker was digging through his office drawers when
suddenly he came upon a magic lamp. He rubbed the lamp and out popped a
genie.

The genie asked, "What is your first wish?"

"I would like to be rich!" replied the worker.

And poof the man was surrounded by piles of money.

Since the worker knew the whole wish process, the genie didn't even have to
ask
for number two before he said, "My second wish is to be on an island with
beautiful women surrounding me and obeying my every command!" And poof, he
was
there.

Then the civil servant decided on his third wish, "I don't want to do any
work
ever again!" and poof he was back in his office.

What do you really want? What can you let go of?

For most of us, simplicity is a learned trait.  Address the areas of your life that are feeling out of balance and make rapid corrections instead of thinking there is plenty of time left to "wake up". And remember – you are not alone, team up with people and groups that will support you - we are going to have to help each other through the massive shifts that are happening in all sectors of our world.

We want to aim to become healthy, brave, honest and clear -minded quickly.

Release the stress and fears that have held you stuck in place and are no longer serving you. Resolve stress and fear by taking action.

Let the information IN. The key is to want to do the work and want to look at yourself and want to respond differently.

On a physical or emotional level, we can release the McMansions in our life that are eating up our attention time and focus and go for McManageable instead.  We can accelerate new internal programming and behavior patterns that will let you smile at your old self, set goals and reach them. FAST!

Are You Stuck In A Rut In Your Life?

Are you stuck in a rut in your life? I once heard a rut defined as a grave with no end. When we experience being in a rut it’s generally because we believe it’s safe there. We feel the risk of loss is less if we just stay where we are. Something outside that rut seems risky, and so we settle in. At least we think we know where we’re at. But if a rut is a grave with no end then surely we don’t realize we’re living life in a grave.

Dr. Ernest Holmes in The Science of Mind wrote: “Realization without application is hallucination.” Even though we experience ideas and visions of how we want our life to be, if we don’t actualize those ideas, they’re all for nothing.

We have an instinct to move into the path of what our heart desires. We have great ides, thoughts and visions of whom and what we can be. And then uncertainty takes hold. It’s that fabulous unknown that scares the bejeezus out of us.

To heal any fear that is running your life, learn to incorporate two voices. You already have a strong first voice that is telling you everything that can go wrong if you take a risk. Now you need a new, second voice to parent you through each step.

Have you ever wondered how do baby birds do it? They’re high up in a nest and watch their parents fly away each day to bring them food. Then one day it's their turn. They’ve never flown before. What must it feel like to be a baby bird peering over the edge of the nest to the abyss below? Fearful and scared if they do fly they will plummet to their death or be maimed.  That’s really being out of their comfort zone and the only known which is the nest.

And we are just like the birds who come to the edge and must make a choice – do we follow our urge or do we live the rest of our lives in that nest? Are we paying attention and trusting or are we resisting where we feel we must go?
And what is the greater risk – to step out and do it? Or to hold ourselves back, stuff it all back inside and play meek.

Chicks will waddle back and forth on a ledge deciding if they should return to their nest or plunge, and eventually after several rounds of this they intentionally lean over to the point of no return and surrender to gravity, They flap their wings wildly at first seeing what it’s like to use their wings and how. Successfully having completed one run they are encouraged and more confident to try it again and again until it becomes second nature to fly. Now they know for sure that they can fly.

Be the mom or dad bird for your inner chick that is learning to fly. When you get to the edge but want to waddle back into the nest, be right there telling yourself that you will make it, you can do it, you’re right there to pick yourself up in case you fall, to follow the call that you are hearing inside of yourself. Lean over into the mystery of life. Lean to the point of nor return and surrender and see what wind is beneath your wings. Just like birds we are fully equipped to break free of the voice of fear. Let go of where you are right now and jump into the exploration of your passion, purpose and meaning.

Are You Playing Small In Your Life?

Are You Playing Small In Your Life?

Playing small does not serve us or anyone else.  Deep down you know this.  Deep within you lives the spark of a big dream just waiting for you to let loose, to step into your greatness and the vastness of who you really are.

If you told the whole truth to yourself – you’d have to admit that you have the capacity to be all that you were intended to be.

·         What is your big dream?  Imagine the possibilities.
·         Do you have a dream with a purpose?
·         Do you run a business without clarity to how you want it to end up?
·         Do you have a desire for a goal but lack the insight or courage to make it happen?
·         What stops you from hitting your target?  Is it fear of failing or fear of succeeding with something that really matters to you?

If you aren’t playing as big a game as you could be, think about this:
Who are you inspired to serve?
What realized dream would open your heart the most?
What can you do to make your life feel joyful?

Many people dream of changing their lives but remain stuck in their current status. They hold themselves back by telling themselves their goals are unrealistic, and/or they tolerate dissatisfying situations because they feel undeserving of anything better.

Each of us is born with tremendous potential, but it becomes buried beneath self-defeating patterns. It’s being trapped in a life full of excuses and frustration, instead of actively creating a life that you love.

Living Big
Living big means your inherent potential is liberated and you're free to realize your greatest dreams. Living large means taking action to override old patterns, release your inner talents and gifts, and empower yourself to pursue your goals.

How are you treating yourself?
What kinds of messages are you sending to yourself?
What kinds of relationships are you creating in your life?

You are here at this time to embrace your greatness and follow your passions. Learn to live each day without limitations.  Make your self-care and your deepest passions a priority. Do one new thing each day. Have new experiences, open your mind to new possibilities and begin to do things “out of the box.”

Connect and talk with uplifting people, read inspiring literature, listen to inspiring radio shows like “Dare to Dream” on a weekly and daily basis (http://www.deborahdachinger.com/interview-archives), and post inspiring quotes in your home or office. Do whatever it takes to surround yourself with as many positives people and messages as you can and watch your life open up.

Encourage yourself to expand.

Take some time each day to tune into your inner voice. Listen to what resonates with you and what you truly enjoy.

Give yourself confidence to take action towards your purpose and start to build your self-esteem. Make what you say to yourself and how you treat yourself all about your dream self-esteem. Tell yourself: "You are amazing, talented and magnificent. You can do this." Keep building your confidence to actively pursue your goal.

Jim Rohn, the Author and Speaker said:

"You must constantly ask yourself these questions: Who am I around? What are they doing to me? What have they got me reading? What have they got me saying? Where do they have me going? What do they have me thinking? And most important, what do they have me becoming? Then ask yourself the big question: Is that okay? Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change."
