Tactics Show You Can Turn This Around: Dealing With Perceived Failure or Disappointment

From time to time many of us feel as though we have failed at something. Some of us may feel disappointed at the outcome of a situation that may not have ended to our liking. The question is: how do you handle the feelings of failure or disappointment?

The word failure comes from the 1100’s, Middle English, meaning to disappoint, to deceive.

In reality nothing ever really fails, it is only our reaction to a standard we have set, a measure that a situation or a somebody should, in our estimation, have a particular outcome. Although we may experience something as having failed, truthfully WE can never be a failure. Thinking we’re a failure is taking a moment and creating a belief about ourselves and attaching the failure to an idea of who we are, our life or existence. And it simply is not true. If actually there has been a breakdown in your life and a failed situation, the way to handle it is to learn from the experience, fix it or make an amends and then go on with your life knowing that you now know better and will do better. When you beat yourself up you stay stuck. When you know better you do better.

Movement is energy and energy needs to move so forgive yourself and others, right what has happened, learn your lesson with love and grace and take the next right step in your life.

If you’re feeling failed or disappointed, feel into it and ask yourself – is this perception of myself mine or does this belong to someone else? If it is someone else’s idea of you then return it to sender with love attached. If it belongs to you then where does that belief comes from? And honestly is it serving you or swerving your life off-course? What did you do that you can choose to not do again? Prove to yourself that you do better, accept yourself and allow yourself to move forward with your life in a direction that matters to you.

Dance with life; allow the journey with its ebbs and flows, its successes and failures. How we perceive all of these events is in our minds. We choose the thoughts we think. Accept Choose Take Action

Trust life and the most extraordinary things will happen. Trust yourself and build a rapport with yourself to know to do and be the best you you can be. As you develop an intimate relationship with yourself you will learn you can depend on yourself, and after all it is YOU you’ll be traveling this entire life with, not to mention the next life and the next! Be in your day the way you want to live your life. Focus your thoughts in a positive direction. Draw to yourself exactly what you need.

Just as important is to remember to let life take over to fix things. We are not alone. We are much beloved by unseen friends. We must do what we can and then let go to allow the healing to begin.

Here’s one example from my personal life, and how I could have perceived and received this as disappointment or as just another event. I have had a producer interested in me for years. This producer is attached to a very well known actor who funds big projects. I’ve had coffee with the producer and his partner several times. Each time we got together, the producer talks about how he loves my show and what I’m doing. He sees me working with him and shifting what I’m doing into bigger venues doing bigger things. In our meetings there were promises made and interest expressed and then after our meeting – nothing. Disappointing? Yes. My secret is I do not wait and wonder if something will come through, because time marches on and so must I. Therefore I kept and continue to put myself out there in big ways which continues to reap results. The producer pursued working with me through discussions and then stopped the planning and for 2 years now I have NOT heard from him. Yesterday, out of the blue, I heard this producer’s name mentioned regarding a project by a colleague, and suddenly one hour later, I received a call from the producer – after two years! In the call he shared that he and his partner want to get together with me for coffee to talk (again). They have new plans; they’re in a new place, and with new ideas. I will show up for the opportunity. I will remain open and hear what is new in their space and what their renewed interest is in working with me, and I’ll see how it feels. I will not put stock into what may or may not happen. If working with them works out: terrific. If it doesn’t: terrific. I believe if this connection does not come to fruition in my life then it isn’t meant to be and there’s something much better, much juicier in store for me instead.

Disappointment is what happens when I have an expectation. I go into this and most things with no expectation. With all the things I wheel and deal and all the calls and interest I get from so many different factions it is like pasta. Every so often something sticks. I do my best work and be my best self and show up. What is meant to be in my life will be. This creates a feeling of success and of looking up and forward at all times.

Handling Time with Inspired Time Management

Welcome to a new year! Are you too busy? Feeling overwhelmed? Over tasked? Do you have more things to do than there are hours in the day? If you want to know solutions to manage time then there is a way out and through to the other side. I’ll share some tried and true methods that will halt the feeling of drowning in tasks, and instead will start you creating the day the way you want it to look and feel.

First, take a moment to reflect and write down three things you are doing right now in your life that you hate doing and make your energy feel low. Take a look at those three things. Besides regretfully doing the chore or assignment even when it does not make your world feel lighter, what can you do to stop doing the task or give it to someone else? Give yourself a moment of pause to contemplate how this can show up differently. Can you stop if altogether? Can you delegate it? Can you barter? What is possible? Come up with several solutions and choose the one that feels right and best to implement right away. If, for instance, laundry is on the list, look at taking back your time and energy around doing laundry. There are laundry services. You can farm out your laundry every week and paying for the service will free you up. Or your house cleaning company may be willing to also do your laundry in addition to cleaning your home or apartment for a small addition fee. You can barter with someone, or you can delegate the responsibility to someone else.

How about people you spend time with who do not add anything to your life? Any kind of rut you’re in that is zapping your energy can be dealt with. Sit down and freely focus on solutions…just let them flow and see what is possible. Once you notice a solution that is viable, start to implement the resolution, which is your way out of overwhelm, and take back your precious time! The key here is to find the major tasks and/or relationships you engage in that are taking the life from you and are not contributing to your life. You are hereby empowered to reverse that. Try it on just one thing and see what the result is for yourself.
Now write down three things that you LOVE doing. What are they? How much of your day and week is spent doing these three things you love the most? If it is 65 percent and up, then you’re doing great. If it is less than 65 percent then it’s time to factor your biggest pleasure into your routine much more. We are here briefly and time goes by quickly. It’s how we choose to fill the time that matters. Figure out how to bring your passion more into your life. Write and freely focus on possible solutions. What’s possible? See what comes out of you – you’ll know when you find a viable, workable solution because it will feel exciting to you.
For some, poor time management is a result of waffling over choices; there are issues with indecision. Indecisiveness manifests within us when we are focused on what is outside of us. In other words, when we worry about what our family will think, what our friends would or wouldn’t do, what we perceive is acceptable to society, anything that causes us to focus on outside validation means we have just created separation with ourselves. It is vital to start – right now- to listen to your heart song inside. If you want to know what is or isn’t right for you listen. If you breathe, get quiet and connect to your heart and intuition where you can ask questions and receive perfect information that is right for you. Follow your own internal guidance. The more you do it the stronger it will become until that's all you know to do. Stop allowing indecision to sabotage your dreams and your time. Listen within anytime fear and indecision pops up. Wipe out all the chatter and voices and know what you are meant to do and when.

Healing time management means two things: meditating and relaxing. Stopping doing so much and finding balance in just being. That is often contrary action and contrary thinking for many of us however it is precisely what we need to do. And truth be known, we know it! We know it because we’re tired and overwhelmed and overburdened. To stop and breathe and do nothing at least one time every day – just for you.

Another remedy for handling time management is to have a plan. Plan your day or plan to fail. When I see a smorgasbord of to-do’s that has the potential of drowning me, I take five minutes to look over my physical and virtual pile of tasks. I then put everything in order, usually on paper, and do one at a time from the most important down. Often there are days when realistically I know only a super being could do everything that’s in the in-box. I create a successful situation by choosing the top 3 or 4 to-dos and my goal for the day is to ONLY accomplish those 3-4 items. When I complete them then I end my day and feel very successful. If I finish them and have plenty of time left over I have the option of looking at the 5th most impotent item on my list and handling that. I create a winning situation by taking contrary action.
It may seem we should take on everything and multitask and not finish until the very last thing is done, however how successful have you ever been at that? Probably never. And if you even did it I know you were wiped out afterwards. We’re too important. To-do’s will always be there. We’re going for feeling terrific, successful and confident.

Take what you can realistically handle and let the rest go. It’s amazing how much you can actually accomplish this way, and how great you can feel afterwards. Use these solutions to manage time and start creating the day the way you want it to look and feel.

About threeyears ago, a man named John went out for hike on New Year’s Day. He was feelingdown and at an all-time low. He was overweight. His law practice was losingmoney. He was entangled in a divorce andliving in a depressing apartment. Thewoman he’d been dating recently had broken off their relationship. While on the hike he decided that he wouldstop focusing on all he wanted and what he had lost, instead he would begin tobe grateful for what he had. An idea popped into his head – to express a yearof thank you. And the project transformed his life.

John beganto see how he had been blessed by so many people in different ways and as he acknowledgedtheir blessings, his blessings began to multiply. As he thanked colleagues for directly cases tohim – they referred more. He expressed gratitude to clients for paying promptlyand they did so even more quickly. Histhank you notes told people how much their kindness meant, and they started torespond and reflect the same message back.

John’s 260^ththank you note went to a Starbucks barista named Kimber, when he wrote how her workingon Thanksgiving made such a difference. He acknowledged that the time andeffort she took to learn his name and greet him each day made him feel like aperson and not a number. The small things can make such a difference. Kimber nearly broke down reading the notewhich made her realize that what she did at work did count.

It took him365 days but every day John succeeded in writing a thank you to express hisgratitude to a different person every day. His life is changed because of itand he wrote a book called “A Simple Act of Gratitude,” by John Kralik.

What if we allstarted right now to do the same? Let’sup our gratitude. Grab a pen and paper(or stationary or card). Let’s not dothis in an email but rather take the time to share our gratitude so it isreceived with proper impact. Handwrittennotes are special as though we are there with the person.

Next, bespecific. You can write someone who has given you a present: “Dear So-and-So,"identify the gift (“the beautiful scarf”) and say one sincere thing about whyyou like it (“It is perfect to keep me warm during these cool months”).

Afterthanking your close friends and family, write to people who helped you atcritical moments. Reach out to a doctor who helped, or a banker, or a janitor,a waitress, the postman, anyone who showed up for you in a way that makes adifference.

Keep itshort – your message does not need to be long, just heartfelt. Keep your focuson the thank you and other person’s kindness which can be done in a fewsentences.

HEALING OVERWHELM AND TOO MANY TO-DO’S

We thrivewhen we feel that have been successful at something. I know I do – I love tofeel successful. I thrive when I complete something and it’s a good job. AfterI complete something I feel really good about what I’ve done and myaccomplishment.

When you havea gigantic list of to-do’s that is never ending it’s engaging in self-sabotage.Why? Because it is a set up to be a failure, for as you know it is impossibleto do a to-do list the size of Milwaukee. We’ll never get from one end of Milwaukee to the other end of the state inthe allotted time. So why write all of that down to pretend you’ll handle whenit won’t happen and the end result will be disappointment in yourself?

Here is mysuggestion to alleviate the sabotage and create a feeling of success instead:

-From your vast list of things youwant to accomplish - pick three to-do’s only

-Everything else that you may do is abonus.

-Let yourself win

-Massive to-do’s are a set up you createto feel like a failure

-You thrive on winning

-So let yourself win

-Pick the top three must do’s. Thoseare today’s to-do’s

-Let the rest go

-If you finish your 3 to-do’s and haveample space in order to accomplish more – then excellent

-If you have done your three items andcan’t do more - excellent

-Finishing those three to-do’s meansyou are a winner. You are triumphant. And you deserve to succeed.

It’simpossible to ask ourselves to accomplish a ton of things and then go afterourselves ruthlessly if we have not finished what we set out to do. I’m not talkingabout procrastination, I’m talking about those of us who are doing everythingto show up for our dreams, and for ourselves, and for other people and for ourfamilies, and – end up getting exhausted and not feeling like we got ahead.Instead feeling like we’re not making it. We need to release ourselves from this punishing standard, and stopbeing married to any concept that places more importance on doing and meetingeveryone’s needs, than on the magnificence of who we are and just being. Can you feel that? Does that cause you topause and just breathe? Are you willing to hit the Pause button on the RemoteControl of your life and just breathe?

As you can throughout your dayrealign your focus, values and attention. To relax into the day ~ keep yourmind focused on the majestic strangeness of the world. Being present requiresletting go of old habits, complaints and hang ups. Stop insisting that things be done on your punishing schedule.

Take more time to sit, listen to others, refrain fromchasing after everything, skip doing things now and then, and be aware ofpresence. Lighten up.

Are You Feeling Crazy or Connected?

Doesn’teverybody you know have their own particular brand of crazy? You can know the coolestperson and they have at least one something that is a problem for them. Peoplecan look at another person and think that they person has it all together andfrom the outside they do and in most regards they do but even they have their stuff. Maybe it’s a love relationship that eludesthem and always ends poorly, maybe its money, or maybe they have success, orthey have done well with money and the relationship but always feel emptyinside. Maybe they work too much, or not enough. Each person has their lifelesson they’re working on (and sometimes it’s more than one).

Whateveryour brand of crazy is you have the ability, in spite of your crazy defaultpattern, to disengage. You can step out of crazy. I’ve seen people do it, I’vedone it, and it is so powerful. I figure you can work on yourself to kingdomcome and sometimes a crazy just likes to rear its head. You’re heading down the path - when all ofsudden you’re terrified of leaving your home and going outside, or your bodyissues start to control you, or depression takes over, or you are completelystressed out over someone or something else, or you get thoroughly overwhelmedand paralyzed, or….. there you fill in your brand o’ crazy – what is it that takescontrol and takes over and takes youdown? Touch down! Crazy wins. And thecrazy crowd goes, well… crazy!! Yup. That’s the funny thing about life. We allgot something.

What I knowfor sure is that no brand of crazy owns me. Crazy is as crazy does. So when mycrazy comes up I acknowledge it. Usually I’m IN it for a short spell before Irealize oh…this is all an illusion. You’re not real, Mr. Crazy. You’re tryingto make me THINK this potential horror is real. So thank you for sharing and Igotta tell you. This is my life. This is my world. I do this my way and eventhought you are rearing your ugly head I am still gonna do it. That’s right. Iam still moving forward. Thank you for sharing but I am going to take a stepthrough you to the other side, because I have a choice. And I choose to NOTconnect with you, and to instead connect with what is real and right for me. Iam designed for great things, for joy, for happiness. I am worthy and worth thetreasures and riches and dreams come true.

We canchoose to put all our chips down and turn the roulette wheel betting in favorof our crazy or we can take our chips while we’re well ahead, and walk away. ‘Cozcrazy will win. Crazy takes down. Crazy was created to sabotage us. We think it’sreal, we think its helping. Crazy is just something we decided somewhere alongthe way and it is the default M.O that pops up in our life to stop ourmomentum.

Do you believein a Higher Power? In Source, or God Goddess All There is…Allah, Buddha, Yahweh….agood kind Universe? Whatever you attribute your energy and creation to, knowthat you are always connected. We act as though we are not. Like we need tomeditate to get there. But truthfully we are at all times a part of and belovedby Source. So when the crazies aregetting to you, and they will from time to time, stop. Recognize it for what itis and take a breath and stop. Now, newchoice. Step into your greatness. Source is always connected to you, you justdimly forget from time to time. Reconnect, reengage, they were always here, youjust went away momentarily. Step forward into the light of the highest on highand who you truly are.

When weattempt to partner with Wi-Fi for a computer or phone it asks if we want to connect. Your highest self is asking the same thing.I’m right here, I’m wireless and I’m everywhere. Do you want to connect?

When we veeroff the path and into the valley of fear or stress or I’m not _(fill in theblank)___ enough, or overwhelm, or financial craziness…whatever your varietyof crazy…. Come back little Sheba. And reconnect with Source.You always are connected anyway. You just need to be reminded now and then. :-)

DARE TO DREAM Because YOU Count!

You need cause to have effect. You cannot have an effect of success without cause. So what is your cause? In other words, what is the reason? Find the reason for why you are going to create the finish line goal in your life and then you will create the effect; manifest the outcome in your life.

Are you experiencing a dream or goal that is not working out for you? How you are doing with this dream is how you do your life. Take a look. Did you hit a failure or discouragement and you’re telling yourself it’s not going to work out and you don’t have what it takes? Are you giving up? Look at your life in a global sense. Where else do you throw in the towel? Give up, give in, and not push forward? Where else don’t you show up for yourself and for others?
Or do you get confused, held back by not knowing where to start or how to start and the swirls of confusion in your head get so overwhelming you back off completely? Play dumb, roll over? Ah well, it was too much anyway.
What is your critical mass point where that dang dream is just not going to manifest?

When you figure out your particular brand of crazy, and how you are falling out, selling short and sabotaging your own hopes and desires – take a nice long look at THAT, focus on that because THAT is your pattern. Take a sweeping look of your life and when you view the rise and fall of your goals (desiring them, starting to go after them and where you essentially poop out) I’ll bet that where there’s frustration, and lack of completion, things not working out (repeatedly) how you want them too – that’s where you’re doing this very behavior over and over – to your own demise.

If you will take the time RIGHT NOW, to figure it out, to admit it, to own it and then concede responsibility – then it’s all good news. Once you know what you’re bringing to the party, then you can do something about changing what you bring.

Now: here’s the truth, and this is the real deal. You Can Do It. You CAN do it. You can do IT. Once you know what’s wrong you can apply your knowledge to figure out how to do it right. Is it your belief in you that waivers? Is it needing help from the outside as in a class or mentor or coach? Is it a skill you don’t currently have? What is missing? Now what do you need to replace it with, which part do you need to repair or replace in order to forge ahead successfully?

What examples can you think of from your life – the poor behaviors on your part that reap poor outcomes? And if you were do to the positive opposite of that, replace it instead with a positive outcome what would that new behavior be? Look like? Feel like?

There, that’s it! Now do that. Implement the new behavior right away and take steps to acquire be and/or do.

You know how some corporations have a benefit package that includes matching funds? If an employee puts a certain amount into their 401K or retirement the company will match that – you put in $500 a week towards your 401K and the company puts in $500 a week.... what a great deal. And so it also is with dreams and goals. Once you get your own head sabotage out of the way, fully align yourself to go for your dream – THE UNIVERSE will more than match you, it will supersede you. You put in 100% towards making your goal happen and the universe will put in 1,000%. What a GREAT deal. So doesn’t it make total sense to go for it? Of course it does, we live in a world set up to support us. Who told you you were put here to have dreams but it isn’t possible for them to come true? Whoever it was – a person or society or noise you picked up along the way, it is up to you, this is your life, you can choose differently right now. I urge you to. Look around there are successful people everywhere living out their dreams in big, beautiful juicy ways. And you can be one of those people. You already are. You just need to believe in that and step into it – that simple.

YOU CAN DO IT. Tough times never hold us back or down because we’re bigger and better than that. We are up to the task. Here’s your new mantra below, starting today. (It’s hard to hear you, please say it louder now):
“I CAN DO IT. I AM CAPABLE. I SHOW MYSELF THE WONDERFUL STUFF I’M MADE OF. I AM WORTHY & DESERVING OF MY ENTIRE DREAM BEING MY REALITY. YES. YES I CAN. YES I WILL. YES I AM.”

Success – Can It Get Any Sweeter?

Last week I shared I was about to publish my new book “Dare to Dream” This Life Counts,” andthat although I was detached from the outcome I also felt inspired to see thebook become a bestseller. Why? Because I teach about big, juicy dreams and howto make them come true. And because I walk the walk. So I did the unthinkable.In six days, just myself as the launch campaign team I went off into publishingland for my very first time.

The “Dare toDream” book went live and by 11:30 AM I was a bestselling author. By 1:30PM the “Dare to Dream” book was a bestseller in 3 different categories,including the most difficult grouping: Self Help. By the evening the bookcontinued to sell over notable books written by Sir Richard Branson, Dale Carnegie,Lisa Nichols and don Miguel Ruiz. Now I was living the stuff that dreams aremade of. My book is still in the bestseller category, which feels fantastic. Iwant to tell you these things are possible.
